ABSTRACT
More than 60% of the today’s marketed anticancer drugs are derived from terrestrial organisms. However, the oceans, the unsurpassable source, remain to be thoroughly delineated for discovering drugs for treatment of cancer. Several chemical entities are under advanced preclinical testing and additional candidates for clinical development are emerging, including compounds hitting a specific target. The steady increase in the number of scientific publications and patents on marine genetic resources observed that this area is of growing importance for both the scientific community and bioprospecting. This paper will present certain marine molecules that have promise to emerge as drugs for the treatment of variety of cancers.
Key words: Anticancer, marine, clinical and preclinical.
