ABSTRACT

  Oral gastro retensive delivery system draws great attention in the recent pharmaceutical research field. Floating drug delivery device, irrespective of pre or post prandial administration will be retained in the stomach permitting the drug to get localized or targeted to enhance its bioavailability. This review article is in pursuit of giving detailed information about the history to the latest trend in floating oral gastro retensive drug delivery systems. Different formulation approaches, characterization and evaluation of single and multiple chambered floating devices, factors affecting the bioavailability are discussed. Multiple chambered floating devices will overcome many short comes of the former
