ABSTRACT

Various hemiparasite plants are used in treatment of inflammation, arthritis, urinary disorders. The objective of the present study is to study preliminary anticancer activity of ethanolic extract of Viscum articulatum parasite on five different host plants. The whole plants specimens were authenticated from Botanical Survey of India, Pune (M.S.). The whole plants were shed dried and subjected for preparation of ethanolic extract. The stock solutions           of 1000 µg/ml in artificial saline water (ASW) were prepared for all five extracts and accordingly the test concentrations were prepared and tested by using Brine Shrimp Lethality Assay (BSLA).
The total ethanolic extracts show very potent cytotoxic activity towards this assay which proves the preliminary anticancer potential of the plant material.

KEYWORDS: Hemiparasite plants, Brine Shrimp Lethality Assay.
