ABSTRACT


3-hydroxy androstane [16,17-C](6’methyl, 2’-1-hydroxy -isopropene-1-yl) 4,5,6 H pyran is one of the phytoconstituent present in Syzygium cumini Linn. is known for its hypoglycemic activity from ancient times. In the present study an attempt has been made to develop a HPTLC method for quantitative estimation of 3-hydroxy androstane [16,17-C](6’methyl, 2’-1-hydroxy -isopropene-1-yl) 4,5,6 H pyran in different marketed antidiabetic polyherbal formulations. This HPTLC method was found to be reproducible, accurate and  detect 3-hydroxy androstane [16,17-C](6’methyl, 2’-1-hydroxy -isopropene-1-yl) 4,5,6 H pyran at nanogram level. The developed HPTLC method would be an important tool in the quality control method of polyherbal formulations.
