ABSTRACT
Pharmacognostic standardisation of the fresh, powdered and anatomical sections of the flowers of Bauhinia tomentosa Linn. was carried out to determine its macro- and microscopical characters and also some of its quantitative standards. The flowers usually in pairs (rarely 1 or 3), on short axillary or leaf-opposed peduncles. Internally sepal, petal and ovary its shows the presences of outer epidermis, inner epidermis, vascular bundles, cortex, parenchyma, xylem, phloem, trichomes, vein trace, locule, placenta and ovule. The chemo-microscopy revealed the presences of basal Cell of the Trichomes, epidermal cell, stomata, vein - islets, vein - termination, fertile pollen, funicle, pollen, sterile pollen, seed, Astrosclereids and filiform Sclereids. Physico-chemical evaluation includes ash values, extractive values, moisture content was evaluated. These findings will be useful towards establishing pharmacognostic standards on identification, purity, quality and classification of the plant, which is gaining relevance in plant drug research
