ABSTRACT
The present investigation deals with the performing the valuable test to check the quality of powder as well as different extracts of Trapa natans L.var. bispinosa Roxb. (Trapaceae) roots. It is commonly known as “Jalaphala” in Sanskrit, is an free floating aquatic herb. The stem is long, flexuous and ascending in water, leaves are crowded in the upper part of the stem and roots are adventitious developed from nodes of floating and do not posses nodes, internodes and buds. T. bispinosa is used in indigenous system of medicine as nutrient, appetizer, aphrodisiac with miscellaneous use & useful in the disease of nervous system.
In this investigation, the parameters applied for the physico-chemical studies include evaluation of colour, consistency, extractive value, ash value, moisture content, qualitative phytochemial studies and fluorescence analysis.
Thus, present study revealed the present of saponins, glycosides, carbohydrates, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, phytosterols, fixed oils & fats, in which the concentration of saponins, phenolic compounds & flavonoides, phytosterol, fixed oil & fats is high as compare to other phytoconstituents.
